Window Treatment Ideas For Large Windows
A large window can bring positive attention and energy to a room. It will naturally catch your attention when you enter the room just on its size. Because of this large size however, it can be difficult to find stylish and affordable blinds or shades. I’m going to be giving some advice on how to make sure your large windows are outfitted with modern yet budget-friendly blinds or shades.
First, you should order samples of all the styles that catch your attention. While a particular fabric or color might look nice online, remember that computer monitors naturally have limitations and therefore cannot display the true color of the material. Apart from being affordable and stylish, you’ll want to find a blind or shade that still provides the light control, privacy and functionality you need.
For example, cordless cellular shades are a safe choice for children and pets, and are very stylish but they are difficult to operate on very tall windows (consider motorized shades instead). I would also avoid wood blinds since they are very heavy and are not a good choice for applications where the blind needs to be raised or lowered often.
Now let’s talk about some of the options out there. One of my favorite options is sliding panels. Sliding panels usually work best on windows that are wider than they are tall, and add height and formality to a room. This type of window treatment is a great option for large windows since you have countless options for the fabric and at the same time have the functionality of panels that can be arranged numerous ways.
You can choose from 3 to 5 panels and they can go left to right, right to left, or even go from the middle out both ways. This functionality allows this type of treatment to be a highly effective yet modern alternative to vertical blinds. The panels are lined up on a horizontal track similar to verticals and are hidden behind one panel once they are in the “closed” position. In essence this style is a natural choice for large sliding doors with high traffic but also a great option if you don’t want a huge roller shade covering your over-sized window.
Another great option for large windows is roman shades. This style is recommended for large windows that are taller than they are wide. A roman shade is similar to a roller shade with the difference being that roman shades have their fabric in folded sections. They are basically folded roller shades. If you decide on this style, it’s highly recommended you go with the continuous cord loop for its ease of operation. If you want something with a little more style and convenience, you can have it motorized.
When considering this style, you need to pay greater attention to the fabric you choose. Being that the fabric is going to be in folded sections, you should avoid patterns that need to be fully visible. This shouldn’t be a problem with the different patterns and colors combinations available. Roman shades and sliding panels are just two of my favorite options for large windows.
